How to Seal and Send Wedding Invitations
It can be pretty confusing deciding how to properly seal and send wedding invitations.
With so many insertions, such as response cards, pew cards, reception cards or at-home cards, deciding what order and facing which direction to put each piece can be baffling. Correct Order of Invitation and Insertions The basic order for your invitation packet is: The invitation is placed in the inner envelope with the engraved or printed side facing up and then the insertions are place on top. The insertions go in the following order: - Reception card
- Response envelope with the response card tucked under the flap
- Then pew cards, at-home cards, maps and any other insertions
The insertions are all placed in the inner envelope on top of the invitation, printed side facing the flap. The inner envelope is then placed inside the outer envelope with the flap side facing the front of the outer envelope. You want the guests' names to be seen first when the envelope is opened. Tips on Assembling Your Wedding Invitations No more than two people should assemble the wedding invitations. It just gets too confusing! Be sure to put stamps on all of your Response Card Envelopes before you start assembling the invitations. - The invitation should be placed in the unsealed inner envelope with the engraved or printed side facing up.
- The insertions are placed next to the engraved side of the invitation.
- If your invitations are single fold with the wording on the outside of the invitation, the insertions are placed on top. If your wedding invitations are multi-fold and the wording is inside the fold, then the insertions are placed inside the first fold.
Make stacks of everything that will go in the envelope. Be sure there is the same amount in each stack. Assemble your wedding invitations one at a time. Do not seal the outer envelope yet! If you have any extra inserts left over at the end, you will know that you left something out of one of the invitation packets. Find the envelope with the missing insert and correct the mistake. Now you can seal and send wedding invitations to your guests. Mailing Your Invitations It is a good idea to take one completely assembled invitation to the post office and have it weighed and measured for the correct postage. The post office usually has one or two appropriate stamps to complement the overall look of your invitation envelopes. If you take your invitations to the post office, you can request that they be hand canceled to minimize marks and damage caused by machine canceling. Be sure to mail your wedding invitations at least six weeks before the wedding date.
