Make Your Own
Wedding Invitations

If you make your own wedding invitations, you can save a lot of money and have unique wedding invitations that reflect your personality.

With the easy access to computers, graphic programs, color printers, and scanners, many couples are choosing to save money and share memories by making their own wedding invitations.

The easiest way to make your own wedding invitation is to purchase printable invitations. These can be purchased online, at stationary stores, at card shops, bridal supply stores, and at most hobby stores.

Holiday Photo Cards

There are also, wedding invitation kits that include the invitations, envelopes, response cards, seals and information on making your own wedding invitations. These kits can usually be purchased for less than $30.

If you plan to design your own invitations, you are in luck with all of the assortments of colored inks, fonts, and papers, which come in different shapes and sizes.

By designing your own invitations, you can be creative and express your personality.

If you decide to make your own wedding invitations, you will want to be sure the wording on the invitation is correct.

Be sure to print a sample invitation and have someone else proofread your wording and spelling before you print out all the invitations.

Unique And Different Paper To Use For Your Invitations

To make your own wedding invitations unique, try using a different type of paper than the standard cotton paper.

For example, you could use corrugated paper, which has thick wrinkles and grooves. This would be an ideal paper to use for an urban chic invitation.

Jacquard is a paper on which a design has been printed, such as a pattern of lace or leaves. The pattern will give the paper the illusion of layers.

If you are having a medieval themed wedding, you might even consider using parchment paper with calligraphy writing on it.

Embellishments

When making your own wedding invitations, don't forget about using embellishments. Sheer ribbons, pictures (in black and white), motifs and sealing wax can add a special touch that will make your invitations really stand out.

Ideas For Making Your Wedding Invitations Unique

  • Origami

Three-dimensional items can be tricky to send through the postal service, so try to make it something simple that you could place in a small box or flatten into an envelope.

An example of this is an origami bird. The bird could be folded flat into an envelope to mail.

Use a small sheet of paper to print the invitation on and tie it around the birds neck.

  • Layers

Use a solid colored paper as the base to your invitation. Print your wedding information onto contrasting vellum paper.

Measure the center of both papers and punch a hole in the marked area. Tie the two sheets of paper together by knotting a piece of sheer ribbon through the holes.

  • Envelope

Find an unusual shaped envelope and measure and design your invitation to fit inside the envelope.

  • Beach Theme

Use turquoise vellum sheet for the bottom sheet, white for the invitation sheet, and a light blue sheet of vellum for the top layer.

Trim the bottom of each sheet with wave pattern craft scissors.

Cut the turquoise vellum to 7 1/4 inches long, the invitation sheet should be 7 inches long, and the light blue vellum should be cut to 6 3/4 inches long.

Stack the invitation sheets - first turquoise vellum, then the invitation sheet, then the pale blue vellum - so you can see the graduating wave pattern at the bottom.

Attach the layers with double-sided tape.
