Grooms Tuxedos
Choices in grooms tuxedos have changed considerably in recent years. Not that many years ago there was only the standard black tuxedo for the groom to choose from.
Today, the groom can choose between single and double-breasted jackets, trousers with or without the fabric strip running down the side, a vest or a cummerbund, tie, ascot, or bow tie. If that isn't enough styles to choose from, he must then decide on the coordinating colors. When choosing what the groom and groomsmen should wear, keep in mind the formality or informality of your wedding, the time of day, and the bride's gown.
Darker colors are a good choice for a fall or winter wedding and lighter colors for spring and summer weddings. RENTING YOUR TUX Most grooms tuxedos are rented for weddings. Three of the common places from which to rent the tux are: chain stores, bridal shops, and small independent shops. It is important to find a shop that has a wide variety of makes and styles and knows how to measure properly. The tuxes should be ordered at least four weeks before the wedding. Earlier, if the wedding is during prime wedding months or prom season. The bride's father and the groom's father should dress in the same manner as the groom and groomsmen. WEDDING STYLE Very Formal Wedding For a very formal wedding, held in the evening, the groom and groomsmen can wear a black tailcoat with matching striped trousers, white wing-collared shirt, bow tie and waistcoat. Formal For a formal wedding, the groom, best man and groomsmen can wear black dinner jacket with matching trousers, a vest or cummerbund, and white tuxedo shirt.
Semi-Formal Wedding For a less formal wedding, the groom can wear a suit and tie, usually in black, navy or dark gray. A white or ivory suit can be worn for a summer afternoon wedding. If the groom should choose to wear a white suit, it should match the bride's dress in color.
For Non-traditional Wedding For very casual or non-traditional weddings, the groom might choose to wear khaki's and a polo shirt or even a Hawaiian shirt and flip-flops. As long as the groom has selected a look that will coordinate with the wedding and complement the bride, he can be as comfortable as he wants. MORE UNIQUE IDEAS - Consider renting an extra shirt for summer and outdoor weddings. You can wear one for the wedding and change into the other for the reception.
- Forgo the rental shoes, and just let everyone wear their own dress shoes.
- Try to negotiate getting the grooms tuxedo for free in exchange for having the best man, ushers and fathers rent their tuxes at that same shop.
