Children In Wedding

Whether to have children in wedding is not always an easy decision to make.

If you understand that children can act up or be unpredictable, then do include them in your wedding - because there is nothing cuter than a little flower girl walking down the aisle!

But if you are dreaming of the perfect wedding with every thing running as planned, you may want to think twice about including children in your wedding!

If you do decide to include children, there are four roles for them:

Junior Bridesmaid

A junior bridesmaid is a girl usually between the ages of nine to fourteen.

She will walk down the aisle with the other bridesmaids and can assist with any of the other duties of the bridesmaids.

Often, the junior bridesmaid is a daughter or younger sister to the bride.

Flower Girl

The flower girl is usually between the ages of three and eight years old.

There is usually only one flower girl, but there can be two or three, if the bride wishes.

The flower girl walks in front of the bride spreading flower petals.

Ring Bearer

Generally between the ages of three to six and usually a boy. However, the ring bearer can be a girl, if the bride chooses.

He/she follows behind the maid of honor and before the flower girl.

The ring bearer carries a small pillow with the wedding rings attached (these are usually not the real rings).

Train Bearer

The train bearer's role is to carry the bride's train down the aisle and arrange it. The train bearer usually comes in pairs and is usually between the ages of three to seven.

WEDDING ATTIRE

The children, who participate in the wedding ceremony, are usually dressed in the same style as the rest of the wedding party.

TIPS FOR INCLUDING CHILDREN IN YOUR WEDDING

  • Keep dresses short so that the child is less likely to trip.
  • Make sure the shoes are comfortable and nonskid soles.
  • Choose hair ornaments that won't pinch or fall off easily.
  • Be sure the child knows exactly where Mom and Dad are sitting.
  • Make sure the child goes to the bathroom just before walking down the aisle.
